Re: budget card
Hi
Have a slight problem here.
nVidia cards don't really work as well as the competition.
Budget wise that is.
For £100 the Novatech AMD Radeon HD 6850 1024MB GDDR5 is almost untouchable.

nVidia the closest to this is GIGABYTE Geforce GTX 560 OC 1024MB GDDR5 @£145.99

Re: budget card
I have a budget nVidia 550Ti card with Display Port and HDMI (full not micro). Works good for my needs. I am not a gamer. It is a ZOTAC brand. I think I paid right around $100 US for it a few months back. AMD/ATI cards are every bit as good though. I'll add though, for photo work, I prefer the nVidia card. ATI colors seem to be geared more for gaming as, really, most of the consumer cards are, even at the budget.

Hi
The 550Ti is around £94 here.
The AMD 6850 @ £6 more is well worth it.

Re: budget card
I've got cards from both companies. Not a present, but, I had a dud nVidia before and a dud ATI/AMD. It happens. My nVidia was corrected with a firmware update; the ATI/AMD with an exchange. I don't have the latest offering from either, but it sounds like you will be cutting some cost and I know you do a lot of photo work... Just my two cents, I prefer doing photo work on the nVidia on the Windows rig. My MacBook has AMD 6000 series graphics and it looks great too. Really, either way I think you will be happy. The only illusion I will say about AMD, they release new drivers monthly, but they are often geared towards gamers.
How each one handles OpenCL should be critical to your decision for use with Lightroom and Photoshop... do some homework on that. Either way, whatever you go with, you should be happy with it.
