Power Supply etc ...
Guys,please tell me...
The current power supply is 650W in a PC given to me.
I have a 750W Amacrox Freestyle from another machine (barely used) with a lot more (& updated) connectors than the old one.
Can I 'plug it in' and fire it up straight away ? The machine has a Celeron 2.8. Will it fry the board and peripherals etc ?
The other item is a NVIDIA XFX GTX I assume is 'you beaut' video/graphics card. Worth me trying to install ?.. bear in mind I don't have any drivers for it and probably not anticipating connecting to the net'. Not going to play games on it. How good are these things ?

Re: Power Supply etc ...
If the machine you are using is working for what you need and want then don't bother!
The machine will not run any better with a more powerful power supply.
Sounds like you have no need for a better graphics card.

Joel,
Problem is the power connections to the drives etc. There is a combo of IDE and SATA.
I need the amount of SATA connectors this 750W has.
If the 750W won't damage anything I need to use it.
Yeah... don't think I'll worry about the graphics card... might be more trouble than what it's worth.

How many SATA connections do you have on the Motherboard Alby?

Re: Power Supply etc ...
Just going by memory here Andrew...
4... maybe and another 2 in a different posi. I'll have another squizz tonight when I get home.
it's a weird animal... The ROM/Burner is hooked up via IDE (ribbon cable). The old HDD may have been on it as well ( mate took it out). But it also had a SATA cable doing nothing...
I hooked up my HDD via SATA cables. I was going to add another ROM drive and extra HDD as the initial on is only 160G
Does this all make sense...?...

Re: Power Supply etc ...
Hey AL, you can always use these cables and converters without having to change the power supply.
